Using the Storage System
- Use a plastic or metal letter size file cabinet for hanging files. Wooden or cardboard files might not be acid free or archival safe.
- Place a label on each storage slide. The label provided is wide enough to fit on the top and front of the storage slide.
- Write the type of floss or fiber and the numbers that will be going on that slide, for instance, "Anchor 1 to 27", or "Caron Wildflowers 000 to 015".
- Place the filled Storage Slide onto the rods or rack in the file cabinet or box.
- A Thread Keeper can be removed from the Storage Slide by twisting it slightly to open the bottom of the slide and just pull it out gently. There is no need to remove several Thread Keepers to access one from the middle of the Storage Slide.
More Ideas
- Most of us don't have all of any particular brand or type of floss. You won't need or want blank or empty Thread Keepers for a color you don't have. If you acquire a missing color later, you can easily put it into the right order with just a little rearranging. You could also transfer the Thread Keepers from a project you are putting aside onto a storage slide, write the project name on the label and put it into the file.
- If you have a two drawer cabinet, you could use the second drawer to store fabric and pattern booklets. Truly an end to closets or drawers stuffed with plastic bags and shoe boxes.
- If you use a wooden file cabinet or cardboard filing box, we recommend that you line it with plastic sheeting so that your storage will be acid free and archival safe. If you are storing fabric in a hanging file, use plastic hanging files or keep in a plastic bag..
